Description
An artist's or designer's ability to sketch ideas is the cornerstone of all creative endeavors. With this set of tools a person will be enabled to successfully follow their creative passions. In addition, the ability to sketch ideas becomes critical to communicating and presenting yourself to both the creative and outside world.

This course will challenge you to understand the concepts and theories of communication from the creative mind into a variety of visual two-dimensional mediums. You will undergo a very intensive process where you will synthesize visual principals from the real world, into a specialized visual language to express your creative ideas. The best artists and designers from around the world utilize this same visual language. You will also develop a deep understanding of the process of how drawing influences creativity and how to harness this for your short-term projects, and long-term career.

Class Organizations:
This Class will be taught in 3 distinct sections. The first section will teach you the principals of drawing including lines and circles, 1 2 3 pt perspective, Light and Shadow, Materials, Form, and Environment. Section 2 will focus on utilizing these principals to draw your own ideas. The Final section will focus on a Personal Project that can be directly used in your portfolio.

Goals:
By the end of this class you should expect to have these three things.
1. Exceptional Drawing, Sketching, and Rendering Skills.
2. An in-depth understanding of Drawing Theory
3. Several smaller projects with very high quality examples of work.
4. 1 major project that will be "portfolio" ready.
5. A fully realized set of sketchbooks.
6. A book of inspiration.

EXPECTATIONS:

Attendance will be follow the UM art school policy. We will be covering A LOT of material, so I fully expect that you will make every class, unless there is valid excuse. If you do need to miss class, please make arrangements with me before hand.

Work: There will be significant homework in this class. Expect 5-10 hours of home work during the week and 10-15 over the weekends. Although the workload is heavy, the payoff is always big. In addition I will provide time in class to work on the assignments. I fully expect you to take advantage.

Grading:
I will be critiquing and give you a grade for your homework at every class. Your work needs to be up at 6:30. All homework assignments will be on the Blog.

50% homework: You will receive this grade everyday.
25% Big Projects
25% Sketch book. (Bring this to every class.)
Inspiration Book needs to be done. (10% deduction if not finished.)
